Warming up these days uses Dynamic exercises and stretching rather than static stretching, as in the old days.  Dynamic warm up is performed after a 2-4 laps jog and aims to prepare the athlete for either the session, or event specific drills.

(Static stretching is performed at the end of a session, with the aim of increasing the range of movement.)

Warm up is done running backwards around track
